GUEST EDITORIAL: "And You Thought The President Was Helping To "Create" Jobs?

By Tom Stark

Sure you did...right? While the mainstream media has failed to make much commotion about the practice, President Obama's repayment of favors to the unions had been continuously functioning in the background throughout the eighteen or so months he has held office. Specifically, the practice initiated immediately after his inauguration known as "in-sourcing" has been quietly implemented throughout the government and continues to this day as each opportunity presents itself.

While countless American workers are seeking employment and private business enterprises are losing ground in a highly uncertain economy, this ludicrous policy/practice involves revoking or otherwise canceling contracts with private-sector vendors and placing the formerly contracted responsibilities in the hands of government workers to perform. The entire purpose of originally "out-sourcing" these jobs to the private- sector was to both save money and aid the growth of the private-sector economy (which, in turn, stimulates tax revenue back to the government resulting in added net savings to Uncle Sam).

But when there are ulterior motives for the recent policy shift, common sense fails to hold sway. In this case, the administration is using this policy to increase the number of public-sector jobs - that reads higher-wage, union dues-paying jobs - while devastating private-sector employers who often rely on government contracts to remain afloat during difficult economic times as well as provide growth in the good times. What is the most outrageous aspect of this policy's implementation is that the government agencies are approaching the employees of the former vendor to recruit them as government employees at higher pay and benefits thereby further crippling the job market and workforce of the vendor. It is as if the Obama administration is blatantly out to destroy every aspect of private industry.

Public-sector jobs cost taxpayers far more than private industry jobs. In fact, private sector jobs cost the average American citizen only that relatively small amount that is contained within the price of the products and/or services each citizen consumes as their needs and desires dictate. They only pay for private sector jobs when they choose to purchase a good or service. This is inevitable and unavoidable if we are to have the wide array of products and services we have at our disposal. However, the entire cost of public-sector jobs are supported on the backs of the taxpayers who have no choice in whether or not they want the service performed by that employee. Perhaps the service is needed, perhaps not. Either way, we not only pay for that service, but we pay much more because of the inflated wages paid to most government workers compared to the wages paid by the private sector for comparable work.

When will we wake up to what is happening with this administration and unite in one voice to let the powers to be know that this is not the way we would like to see our country managed? When that days comes, our tax expense will be reduced, the individual's right to work without having to pay dues to someone for that right will be more than a dream, our economy will rebound favorably with an increase in jobs and work opportunities for our private workforce, and private industry will continue to grow our economy instead of being stifled by ever-growing government payrolls and regulatory tangles.

My fervent prayer is that we have enough Americans - regardless of party affiliation - awake and alert enough in November to see that we must reverse the course charted by Mr. Obama and his henchmen and return to the founding principles under which our country grew strong and secure - the principles embodied in the original words and intent of our Constitution (including the legal amendments thereto, but in opposition to those made to it by activist judges without authority). Once we reach that point, we must remain vigilant to prevent a recurrence of this erosion of freedom's principles in the future. Only through an informed and attentive electorate can freedom and our republic sustain itself.
