DEVOTION: Giving of Self

Summer activities have begun for many children and youth around the county and for many it will be a time where the 'giving of self' is experienced in new and inspiring ways.
Being informed of the needs of so many people both locally and globally, we are called to reach out with helping hands and hearts in response to others.
~Work campers are packing and gathering up resources to go and 'give of self' as they build and repair homes in urban and rural areas.
~Bible School leaders and supporters are gearing up to challenge and teach our children and youth their calling to 'give of self' in response to God's love for all people.
~Summer programs of all types bring daring and brave offerings for us to 'give of self' and 'give of love'.
~Emulating God's unconditional love that pours out constantly upon us all, we seek to be God's hands and heart to not only our family and friends... but to all God's children.
"Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met."
Sometimes it isn't an easy choice. We had parents who almost had to force their youth to come to work camp... but for most every youth and adult who came... their faith was strengthened... their hopes and dreams stirred their hearts and minds to look to God for purpose and meaning in life.
O God, you are moving around us and in us and filling us up with so much potential to make a difference. Help us seek your face in others. Strengthen our desire to 'give of self'... to reach out with your love to infants, children, youth, adults ... in sacrificial love. Bless us in what we do and say and forgive us when we hold back our self from being who you created us to be. Stir our hearts to become more like You!
