DEVOTION: Sudden Freeze
By Beth Bondurant
May flowers are bursting with bloom... anxious farmers are getting their summer vegetable plants into the ground... even the usual inside and more protected ornate flowerets have been placed outside and given a "taste of nature".... but then comes the threat of a sudden freeze!
Fearing for our fragile garden of goodness, we immediately take steps to shelter the precious petals from the frost... the cold... and in some places a covering of snow.
Even when we have planned according to the best information for the safety of our growing sprouts, life is still a risk.
Anticipating every possible scenario is impossible...
it becomes a matter of trust.
On the wall beside my computer hangs a constant cross stitch reminder...
Life is fragile... handle it with prayer.
Risking a sudden freeze requires living faith... and an essential element of staying in close connection with God's grace and strength is prayerful trust.
"To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see."
May is an exciting time of the year... with new growth... anticipated graduations... our young birds flying from their sheltered nest... changing schedules... warmer rays for brighter days... weddings and reunions... picnics and pool parties.
We can see so much longer as the days lengthen in their time for light... yet we also know that at any given moment ... what we cling to can suddenly freeze.
Be ready... stay alert... and develop your trust in God's love and care...which is always there.
