DEVOTION: Edible Sweetness
By Beth Bondurant
Delectable fruit partially dipped in chocolate... with rows of delicious strawberries brought not only visual beauty ...but tasty goodness directly to the Moms in our home.
Delivered straight to our door... the smell and touch of nourishing love entered with a sudden surprise and lasting stimuli.
Our earthly form limits us in many ways as we use our senses to understand and relate to the world around us... yet there is a spiritual realm that permeates our being. Our inability to touch... see... hear... speak and move in total freedom restrains our deep involvement with God's presence and power enveloping our lives in constant communication.
"I am leaving you... but the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I have said."
God promises us that we are NEVER alone... God is with us and surrounds us with goodness and mercy and with the gifts we need for every circumstance we face.
Just as our Mother... our Father... our siblings... our family and friends become our teachers and counselors... God's Spirit is alive and nourishes us with strength and hope for every day... come what may.
Be aware of the "living love" that is in and around you. As you actually SEE and read the telling cards... as you HEAR the voices of excitement and thanksgiving... as you TOUCH the offerings and gifts... as you MOVE about the pictures and reminders... as you SPEAK to family and friends... this physical involvement is only a taste of God's power of love surrounding your heart, mind, body and spirit.
"Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you."
God's peace that passes all understanding is with you. The peace that allows us to "walk through the valley of the shadow of death...and fear no evil" ... peace that enables our well being even in the midst of the worst of trauma... a peace that encompasses all of life with Shalom.
The edible sweetness of God's presence nourishes us with the mystery of goodness and grace and we welcome God's spiritual gift of peace that is not of this world.
