DEVOTION: The Ultimate Consideration
By Beth Bondurant
The time in between resurrection and ascension afforded The Master an opportunity to refresh the disciples understanding of their most important mission/purpose/calling as "the people of the way".
In action... in deed... in words... in prayer... a "new commandment" lights the way in the darkness of indifference and hostility to the meaning of "love one another as God loves you".
We have been so brainwashed in the lifestyle of today's message that says... one can have anything they so desire to the point of disregarding any consequences to "one another" and "to Mother earth".
Grace, mercy, peace, forgiveness, sacrifice, faithfulness, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control come in second... third or last in our priority of "living together" as God's children.
"I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
How many ways... how many times... we need reminded that God's way is the way of love.
Yet... just as it takes time for seeds to grow... develop... mature... so it is with you and me... love doesn't come easily... forgiveness isn't automatic... patience and kindness has to be practiced and goodness and gentleness unfolds ever so slowly in our hearts.
Plants have to be nourished and pruned... watered and given the light of life. It is an ongoing process that isn't automatically accomplished. Just as the day lilly takes weeks and months to bloom for ever so short a time... so we, made in God's image, may reflect the ultimate consideration of love for God and one another... in only abbreviated and insufficient increments of time.
Contemplate the lilies of the field today and allow God's Spirit to envelope you with the ultimate consideration of love for God and 'love for one another'.
