DEVOTION: Red Light

By Beth Bondurant

In the back of my memory... there's a children's game we would play where everyone would run until "it" called out RED LIGHT... and then everyone had to stop in their tracks.

The next "options" in the game are fuzzy... but it was enough to trigger this association with RED LIGHTS we encounter daily.

This country tries to program highways and byways with controlling red lights that frequent (sometime TOO OFTEN) our streets so that traffic flows smoothly and consistently. As we well know this method of regulation isn't always successful in fulfilling the intended outcome.

Interstates are built to give drivers more freedom in covering numerous miles without restraining red lights... yet we know there are many other circumstances that alter this design.

STOP! WAIT! SLOW DOWN! MOVE OVER! TAKE AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE!

We have constant red lights in our life that force us to be directed and governed.

It isn't easy to be patient... to wait... to wonder how long... to feel we aren't moving... to even understand the why of our altered forward progress.

"For those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak."

It is a matter of trust. Eventually, the light turns green... the cars begin to move... we find ourselves in motion... heading firmly toward the next inviting outline.

The future path isn't always clear or in focus but we cling to God's promise that the Presence of love travels with us... in us... over us... beside us... around us.

RED LIGHTS COME! ... yet we will eventually GO! in God's strength.
