DEVOTION: Overtired

By Beth Bondurant

Exhaustion can come even when one is only sitting and waiting. Depletion of energy can result from regular routine or additional activity that requires every ounce of one's physical... emotional and mental capacity. Spiritual strength can be consumed in the doing or being connected with giving of self and love one with another.

Knowing we have not completed a job... leaving a task partially undone... seeing the need yet not quite being able to reach the expected or desired goal leaves one overtired.

In God's wisdom and perfect omnipotence... God is working for good... even in our weariness. God moves in mysterious and wondrous ways to bring hope and healing in the midst of even total collapse.

When we look back... we see how God "is with us....through it all". The breath and wonder of God's presence is here... and there... and everywhere.... even in the lightening and thunder of the moment.

Dripping wet... confused... aching and overtired... God moves "upon the face of the waters" and amazing grace and light surrounds and touches our worn and wearied body, mind, soul and spirit.

We wait for the wonder of communion and taste and see the goodness and peace ... forgiveness and grace... strength and compassion in "giving of self and giving of love."

We cling to one another and experience the meaning of being "the body of Christ"... broken and bleeding... yet resurrected in the power of unconditional love.

It isn't everyday that we understand the meaning of overtired... but it is one of the greatest lessons in our faith walk both individually and in our "working together"....

"The one thing I do is to forget what is behind and do my best to reaching out for Christ who has so wondrously reached out to me. I'm off and running and I'm not turning back."

Being overtired pushes us into the secure hands of the One who loves us the most.
