West Virginia Teenage Republicans
Win National Awards

Teenage Republicans are on the move in West Virginia. Not only did Hurricane High School receive the "Outstanding Teenage Republican (TARS) Club in the Nation" Award for the third consecutive year, Caleb Gibson, a 2002 graduate of Cabell Midland High School, was also awarded the honor of being chosen as the "Outstanding TAR (Teenage Republican) in the Nation."

Republican teens from across the nation met in Washington, DC July 8th - 12th to attend the annual National TARS Leadership Conference where the awards were presented. Students spent the week with our nation's leaders on Capitol Hill, attended receptions and workshops, and met with President Bush on the Whitehouse lawn.

"It is very encouraging to see West Virginia students achieve national awards particularly when it comes to being involved in civics and government and the political process" says Kelli Sobonya, Cabell Midland High School's TARS Advisor and Candidate for the WV House of Delegates 16th District. "I applaud Caleb Gibson and the other Teenage Republicans for shining a bright light on West Virginia."

Caleb Gibson, along with TARS Advisors Carol Carrico and Kelli Sobonya, formed the TARS Club at Cabell Midland High School a year and a half ago. Caleb has served as the President of the school's club since it's inception. Erika Hardesty is the newly elected CMHS TARS President.

The Cabell-Midland TARS have been active and have participated in such events such as the swearing in of Kasey Warner, President Bush's appointee for U.S. Attorney, Southern District; President Bush's presidential visits on January 22nd and July 4th; attended a reception with James Gilmore, Governor of Virginia and former RNC Chairman; and have helped in organizing WV Day in the Park (5K Run/Walk), and a pig roast to raise funds for the trip.

The National TARS Headquarters is located in Manassas, Virginia. For further information on TARS: email: TARS@TeenAgeRepublicans.org; phone: 703-368-4214
