TTA Board Meeting
For you by Art Harvath, HNN Correspondent

The Transit Authority board held their monthly meeting on May 15. The TTA board meets at 10 a.m. on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 1120 Virginia Avenue.

Following are the highlights of the meeting before it went into executive session.
Pullman Square Update:

Assistant General Manager Paul Davis said that it was kind of a slow time where they were, as far as seeing progress. He said they were working on bid documents, legal descriptions and that all the attorneys were working and going at it hot and strong, but there’s no progress.
Davis said the gas tank on the superblock is still in the ground, and that George McClennan (Huntington Public Works Director) is working on that, and they should have something about that on Monday. Davis said the tank should be removed in the next couple of weeks.
Site work is out for bid. Bid opening date will be May 30th , and there will be a pre-bid meeting May 21st at 10 a.m. at the TTA center.

Invoices that need to be paid:
-Triad Environmental- $20,162 and $11,156 for the soil samples and professional services.
-Trauner Consulting Services-$30,964.96
-Steiner and Associates- the final draw #12 from December, $241,209.86.
-Meacham and Apel-for Architectural and Engineering services $120,014.22.

The board approved all the above payments.

The time for the weekly coordination meetings with the parties involved with the Pullman Square Project has been moved to Tuesday instead of Wednesday.

Other business:
-TTA opened bids May 15th for a new bus wash. The bus wash system now in use is over 25 years old. A grant from the State of West Virginia will pay for the new wash system. Vickie Shaffer commented that the system now in use was installed in 1976.

-The board and Shaffer talked about the success of the levy vote the preceding day. Shaffer gave a brief history of the levy. She expressed concern about the city vote not only because of the controversial press that they have had, but also because of the wording on the ballot.

-Board member Mary Neely told of all the positive comments she has had about the TTA’s Dial-A-Ride program.

-The board then went into executive session to discuss fiscal year 2002-2003 management compensation.
