After ten months of fund raising and only three months of construction, St. Joseph Catholic High School Huntington announces the official dedication and ribbon cutting for the new "Regina K. Zitter Technology and Research Center."

Mrs. Regina Zitter was an active member of the school's Advisory Board before a sudden illness led to her death last spring.

The ceremony took place Monday, October 9, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in front of the new wing.  Representatives from the Offices of the Bishop, Governor Cecil Underwood and Mayor Jean Dean were present to dedicate the three-story addition.  After a tour of the facility, a reception followed on the observation deck.

Carl Wray of Structures, Inc. completed the project on time, so that the technology and furnishings of the facility could be installed and ready for students when school opened this fall.

The new wing adds nearly 3,000 square feet of additional instructional space to the school.  These technology classrooms, designed for the enhancement of science, math and research, will utilize 42 new computers, and much more.  The observation deck on the roof allows for the placement of a science weather station and offers the possibility for night study in Astronomy.

On behalf of the students and faculty of St. Joseph High School, Principal Tod Faller again extended his gratitude to the many dedicated parents, contributors and volunteers who offered their overwhelming support of this project.  Their Advisory Board has been actively working on this project for a year, with technical contributions from the Computer Store, EZNet, Premium Computers, and Marshall University.

"For example," explained Faller, "Tom McClellan and the Bell Atlantic Pioneers donated all the materials and volunteered the expertise necessary to completely wire and network this Technology Center.  Tom asked if we would be able to come up with as many as 20 volunteers to help.  We simply made a few friends of the St. Joe family on site and prepared to run the 13,000 feet of wire it took to network the entire facility.  We were finished by noon."

St. Joseph Catholic High School has been an active member of the Huntington community, on the same block of 13th street and 6th Avenue, for more than 75 years.  St. Joseph is very proud of its legacy as a community school.  As a way of saying thank you, St. Joseph Catholic High School will soon be offering free computer classes to the community.  In addition, they will be keeping the facility open one night a week so that students, alumni, and their families can take full advantage of this facility.
