This Thing Called Rodeo
For HNN by Brandon Woolum

The Lonestar Championship Rodeo has once again came back to the Huntington Civic Arena. The group of cowboys and cowgirls brought their 2002 Flags and Feathers Tour to Huntington last night and it will continue tonight at 8 p.m.

Over 200 competitors from across the nation, including some local talent, will compete at the event two night stay in Huntington. Although their was about 5 West Virginians competing, including Huntington's very own Kenny Daniels, competing last night, only one was able to move on to tonights competition. Clarksburg resident, Kathy Bailey took 2nd place in the womens barrel race and will compete once more tonight.

This event also provided much fun for the young cowboys and cowgirls. Before the show started children were given free pony rides at the far end of the arena. Then about 20 minutes before the event got underway the Rodeo Clowns his coins in straw and let kids 10 and under search for them for 2 minutes. Whatever money the kids found they were able to keep. Also at the intermission 10 lids were selected to ride sheep and see how long they could hold on. Unbelievably 2-year-old Ceria Ball won the event.

If you would like to attend tonight's event, which features bareback bronic riding, calf roping, cowgirls barrel racing, steer wrestling, saddle broinc riding, team roping, cowgirls breakaway roping, and the crowd favorite Bull Riding, you may puchase a ticker before the event at the Civic Arena Box Office. Tickets are $16 for premium seats and $12 for adult general admission. Children's general admission tickets are only $8.
