The National Hockey League’s Columbus Blue Jackets are crossing the border on Friday to pay a visit to the Tri-State area, where they are to appear at Riverfront Ribfest VII at Harris Riverfront Park.
Starting at 4:00 pm on Friday, representatives of one of the NHL’s youngest franchises will be on hand to meet local hockey fans and provide some unique entertainment for young aspiring players. The Blue Jackets will bring a large street skating exhibit to Harris Riverfront Park where kids will have the opportunity to participate throughout the evening hours. A large inflatable slapshot display will also be in the park throughout the afternoon and evening with kids of all ages being invited to take their best shot on goal. All of these events are free to the public with a paid admission.
"This is a great addition to Ribfest," Civic Arena Marketing Director Heath Brown said. "This is actually their first visit outside the state of Ohio, and we are fortunate they chose Huntington as a place they wanted to make an appearance at to meet and talk with talk to local hockey fans. In fact, I hope this is something we can have every year at Ribfest."
Riverfront Ribfest VII runs throughout the weekend at Harris Riverfront Park. On Friday, the event is open from 11:00 am – 11:00 pm with FREE admission from 11-2 as part of the Business Person’s Luncheon. Admission in the evening is just $2 for adults and $1 for children. Five award winning rib vendors are on hand for the annual event that runs through Sunday.
Trivantage Community Federal Credit Union, Miller Lite, WOWK TV 13, WKEE, WTCR, WAMX, and the Huntington Civic Arena are the 2002 sponsors for the weekend’s activities.
