Are more layoffs in store for Huntington employees? That question could be answered in Monday night's City Council meeting.
Despite a report from City Finance Director Bob Wilhelm that last year's budget defecit was less than expected, at about 732 thousand dollars, the Huntington City Council will once more address a proposal to lay off city employees.
The layoffs are part of a plan to slash the financially troubled city's budget by $1.5 million.
Look for Councilman Charlie Thompson to sponsor the cost-cutting resolution -just weeks after the council turned down a similar proposal.
On July 1, Mayor David Felinton laid off four administrative employees and 16 police officers to save money. This time, Thompson said layoffs won't affect those that protect and serve.
Felinton said more layoffs would eliminate departments instead of cutting them.
