MILITARY SERVICE
PERSONNEL TO BE HONORED HNN Staff
The men and women who voluntarily serve America in the military will be honored
today at the Huntington Mall.
Red, White, and Blue Day will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the American
Legion Post will distribute Blue Star Service Banners.
The banners are made to be hung in the windows of homes where a family member
is serving in the military.
"This is great," said Scott Bynum, of Barboursville. "My cousin
is in Afghanistan, and we are very proud of what he is doing for our country.
We'll put that banner in our front living room window."
"It's important to remember that these men and women were not drafted-they
volunteered," said Gisele Freeman, of Huntington, whose brother just retired
after 20 years in the Air Force. "They decided to put their lives on the
line to defend America. I'm glad the mall is recognizing their patriotism."
