It turns out you may be able to stick to your diet and still munch on your McDonald's French Fries.
"Uh, huh, yea, right!" said Joanna Lowe, of Mercer's Bottom. "Next thing you're going to tell me is that Santa will come down my chimney with a sack of diamonds."
"Now this is good news," Mark Hunt, of Ona, said. "I love McDonald's fries."
"It's a win-win for our customers because they are getting the same great french fry taste along with an even healthier nutrition profile,'' McDonald's USA president Mike Roberts said.
How is Mickey-D's going to do it?
No, the fast-food chain isn't using genetically engineered potatoes. Instead, it's all in the oil.
The new oil will cut in half the trans fatty acid levels in the Golden Arches famous fries. As a bonus, the amount of polyunsaturated fat will increase.
Health experts say replacing saturated fats with unsaturated ones can help lower bad cholesterol levels.
Dr. Meir Stampfer, a professor of nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health, said, "If we can get rid of trans fat in the diet, we could prevent thousands of heart attacks every year.''
Some McDonalds will start frying with the oil next month. By February, all 13,000 U.S. McDonald's will be using the oil.
And perhaps the best news is: McDonalds said you won't be able to taste the difference.
"I'll raise a fry to that," said Pam Cameron, of Culloden.
