Huntington police are confident they have arrested the person that shot Christopher Mentzer last week.
Reco Carter Tubbs, 20, has been in the Cabell County Jail since his Thursday bust. He is charged with attempted murder and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
According to a Huntington Police Department press release, Mentzer, 36, of Buffalo Creek Road, was shot in his chest shortly past midnight, Aug. 7.
The police report said Mentzer and his wife were reportedly driving on 8th Avenue when a woman approached and said she needed help. The Mentzers attempted to help the woman. Several men attempted to rob them a few minutes later.
Mentzer attempted to drive away when one of the men started shooting at him, according to the report. He was hit by one of the bullets, lost control of his car, and hit a pole, leaving him injured. His wife was not injured in the incidents, and police have not commented on the whereabouts or condition of the woman who the Mentzers were attempting to help.
The other men who attempted to rob the Mentzers are still at large.
