Another median crossover accident has resulted in another driver dying in the Tri-State area. This time it's on Route 7 near Cheasapeake, Ohio. The Ohio Highway Patrol reported that a 2001 Ford Focus driven by Joel Maynard, 17, of Prichard, collided with a big-rig truck driven by Clarence Vess of Loudonville, Ohio. Both were traveling westbound on a four-lane stretch of Ohio Route 7 when they crashed at the two-mile marker near the Chesapeake exit. According to police reports, Maynard's vehicle crossed over the center median and collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu driven eastbound by 46-year-old Antoinette Gygi of Huntington Maynard died from his injuries at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Tuesday. There is better news for Gygi. She is in good condition at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Vess was not hospitalized. A rash of median crossover deaths on I-64 has resulted in plans to construct a cable barrier on a stretch from the Kentucky border to Milton. A $1.1 million bid was accepted this week by the West Virginia Department of Highways. Construction is expected to be completed in October.
