Wayne County, W.Va.—An early morning fire at East Lynn Elementary in Wayne County destroys several classrooms.

An early morning fire at East Lynn Elementary in Wayne County sends students on an early spring break.  The break for students was scheduled to begin tomorrow, but due to the fire students are getting an early break.

The fire broke out around 5:30a.m.  The East Lynn, Wayne and Lavallette fire departments were all dispatched to the scene.  “The Wayne and Lavallette fire departments were a big help this morning,” said East Lynn Fire Department chief Steve Vernick.  “Without them we never would have been able to contain this fire so quickly.”

According to Vernick, the early morning blaze started in the art classroom and quickly spread to the music and head start program classrooms.  Those classrooms are in a separate building behind the school that used to house the old cafeteria.  The rest of the school escaped with no damage.

Vernick says the cause of the fire is still unknown and is currently under investigation.  No one was in the building at the time so there were no injuries.
