"Wall of Fame" Nominations Accepted Through June 30

The City of Huntington Foundation Inc. will accept 2001 nominations for
the "Greater Huntington Wall of Fame" through June 30. The wall is located in
the lobby of the Huntington Civic Arena.
Since its inception in 1986, the Foundation has recognized 60 citizens
for their outstanding achievements in various fields by placing plaques on
the "Wall of Fame." Each plaque features the honoree's picture along with a
brief description of that person's accomplishments.
Nominations are accepted from the public at large. Up to four people are
chosen for the honor each year. Maxine Loudermilk, the Executive Director of
the Foundation, said she knows of several nomination packages that are being
put together.
"The portfolios take some time to create," she said. "No matter how
famous you are, you have to jump through the same hoops as everyone else to
be on the wall. The documentation in the portfolio has to show what the
person did."
Loudermilk said she finds Herbert Eiselstein, a former Inco Alloys
employee, to be one of the most interesting honorees. "You''ve probably never
heard his name but your life is much easier because of him. His work has
formed the basis of alloy developments around the world."
The requirements are:
* the nominee must be a Huntingtonian. If not native born, the nominee must
have lived in the Huntington area for at least 10 years;
* the nominee must have performed a community service from which the entire
Huntington area has benefited; and/or
* the nominee must have achieved national recognition in his or her chosen
field and acted as ambassador for the Huntington area.
A person may be nominated from, but not limited to, the following
categories:
* Art -- Literary, Performing, Visual
* Business
* Civic (Community) Service
* Education
* Humanitarian
* Science -- Medicine, Research
* Sports
The honorees for 2001 will be chosen in August through a secret ballot
vote by the membership of the City of Huntington Foundation. A special
ceremony to induct the new honorees is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 5.
Anyone wishing to make a nomination may contact the Foundation's office
at 304-696-5522 for more instructions on how to submit the nominee's
portfolio. It must contain the nominee's description of accomplishments,
supporting material and other information required. Completed nominee
portfolios may be mailed to the City of Huntington Foundation, P.O. Box 1659,
Huntington, WV 25717-1659 or delivered to the Foundation's office in
Huntington City Hall, second floor, Room #2 inside the auditorium.
And don't delay -- the deadline is June 30, 2001.
