Mayor Vetos Council Decision to Eliminate Economic Development Position

To: Chair Person Mary Neely and City Council Members

From: Mayor David Felinton

Subject: Veto of "Resolution Of Council removing the position of Economic Development Director for the City of Huntington from the 2001-2002 budget"

I am vetoing "A Resolution of Council removing the position of Economic Development Director for the City of Huntington from the 2001-2002 budget" because the Economic Development Director position is vital to the future of our city. Many projects such as Kinetic Park are initiated in our Department of Developlent and Planning. Economic Development and Planning. Economic development is a high priority of this administration as we can all agree and there is a fefinite need for high paying jobs in the Huntington area. Further, 75% of the Economic Development Director salary is paid from Community Development Block Grant funding and the remainder is provided from the General Fund. That amount is minor in comparison to the dividends this position will bring to our city through grant awards and future business opportunities.
