Cammack Elementary PTO Sponsors Parenting Seminars

 

The Cammack Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) will hold its
spring session of parenting seminars from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24,
at the school.
The event is open to the public at a cost of $3 per person. Three
seminars will be offered. Each participant will choose which two seminars he
or she would like to attend. Topics include:
* "Four Steps to Raising Responsible Children" -- Dr. Rick Wilson will
speak on helping children learn to make decisions and experience the
consequences of those decisions. Dr. Wilson is the director of the Pastoral
Counseling Center at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
* "Musical Choices for Children" -- Dr. Leo Welch will give parents an
overview of the opportunities in the community for children to have private
music lessons, ensemble instruction, and theater experiences. Dr. Welch is
the assistant dean of the College of Fine Arts at Marshall University.
* "Challenging the Gifted Child In and Out of the Classroom" -- Julia
Hampton will education parents on the referral system for the gifted program,
the components of the school instruction for the gifted and ideas for
stimulating creative learning outside the classroom. Ms. Hampton is one of
the teachers at the Gifted Center, which is located at Miller Elementary. She
has taught gifted students for 23 years.
All funds raised from this event will go toward the PTO's goal of funding
a part-time librarian at Cammack Elementary. Child care will be offered. The
school is located at 10th Avenue and 2nd St.
