McCallister To Hold Town Hall Meeting

If celebrating Earth Day doesn’t stimulate your sense of civic duty, there’s always the town hall meeting at the Huntington Civic Arena on Sunday, April 22 at 2pm.  Council members Tom McCallister and Charlie Thompson are co-hosting the meeting.  “It’s time we sat down and talked to people informally and not put on airs and maybe people can talk about the problems…their wants, wishes,” said McCallister,  “It’s basically a casual get-to-together…we want them to know that we are on their side.”

McCallister says other council members, as well as members of the administration were invited to attend.  “The Mayor has said he will not be there, and said he would not ask his people to be there,” said McCallister.  “I don’t know the reason for that.”

Why have a town hall meeting?  “Basically this is a campaign promise,” McCallister told HNN.   “I told the people that if I were elected I would have a meeting every 2 to 3 months and tell people what’s going on in Council.”

McCallister says the Council expects to receive information from State Auditor Lisa Thornburgh, and says the public will probably have questions about it.

“Basically it would be for the public to talk to us.  I was hoping that the entire city council would be there, along with the Mayor.  It doesn’t look like that will be the case.  But that was the thought.”
