Roach Visits West

Mohammed came to the mountain Tuesday, when Cabell County Schools Superintendent David Roach visited students at West Middle School.

Roach was blasted for insensitivity at a February 20th public hearing on his proposal to close the 90-year-old school, and merge the student body with Cammack Middle School. The Board subsequently, unanimously, voted not to move the 230 West students, for now.

Roach said he was going to West to give students an opportunity to show their support for the school by working hard academically.

West has a student/teacher ratio of around 12 to 1.

Roach told students they have an opportunity to improve standardized test scores and prove West is worth saving
