“SUCCESS BY 6” AT
LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS MEETING.
“Success by 6,” a program of
the United Way of the River Cities, will be the topic of a public
meeting of the Huntington Area League of Women Voters on Monday,
March 26, 7:30 p.m.
at Enslow Park Presbyterian
Church, in Huntington. Gerry Sawrey,
Director of Federal
Programs for the Cabell County
Board of Education and a founding member of the
“Success by 6” committee, will
explain the program and its purposes.
“Success by 6” was inspired by recent research indicating that
early childhood, from the
prenatal period through the
beginning of school, is a unique phase of brain development that serves as a
foundation for behavior,
well-being, and success later in life. According to Sally Adkins, League of
Women
Voter’s Board Member and
“Success by 6” volunteer, the committee seeks to insure that all children, from
birth to age six, in the River
Cities will have access to the resources and experiences they need to be
successful in life.
According to Adkins, “each and every person in our community has
an opportunity to enrich
the lives of our children and help them realize their full
potential. Infancy is not a dress
rehearsal.
From birth to six, just about
everything matters for a young child’s brain to thrive. Children need to be
loved, held, talked to, read to
and allowed to explore. Everyone plays a role in the development of
children. The first years last
forever."
The meeting is open to the public.
