Fire Ravages Three Buildings On 10th Street
The alarm came at approximately 12:45 a.m. Monday morning, and the Huntington Fire Department responded in close to three minutes, according to HFD officials on the scene. Apartments located at 1032 10th St. were already engulfed in flames when the HFD arrived. "The fire was in the back, downstairs, upstairs and in the attic," Deputy Chief Jerry Beckett told HNN. "There was another apartment in the back and another small building that caught fire as well." Deputy Chief Beckett said he thought that six people lived in the front building, but didnt know how many lived behind. He also said no one was injured in the blaze. "We had a hard time getting water to it in the beginning because there were power lines down," Beckett said. "It was also a two-alarm fire, so we ended up having four stations on the scene with three engine companies, two ariel apparatus and one rescue vehicle." The owner of the building, Marsha Morgan, couldnt believe what she was seeing. "Ive never had to deal with a fire," Morgan told HNN. "Ive had everything else in the world happen except that." Morgan said she owned the building next door as well. "The building on the other side burned last year, and we just had that side of my building repaired," Morgan said. "Thank God no one was hurt." Morgan turned to a young man standing next to her wrapped in a blanket when asked if anyone knew how the fire started. "It mustve been from hot coals from the grill," he said. "I dont know what happened, but I think thats it." The HFD couldnt release its findings yet, as an investigation of the fire would be pending later today. |
