Well it's that time of the year again. Time for the hard-hitting action of local high school football. For weeks the Huntington High squad has been running numerous drills to prepare themselves for this years upcoming schedule. The Highlanders season, along with many other schools around the Tri-State, begins in less than a week. The Highlanders first challenge will take place at Bob Sang Stadium next Friday evening against the always tough, defending AAA state champs, the Parkersburg Big Reds. Coach Richard William's team will be at home for the first 3 weeks of their season, including a big game with rival, the Spring Valley Timberwolves. They will then load up on the bus and take the 2 and a half hour drive down to Beckley before returning back to Bob Sang Stadium for Senior Night on September 27th. The very next week the Highlanders will head out to Ona to take on County rival Cabell Midland in the "Battle for the Sheld". Huntington then comes back to their home field for homecoming, which is their last home game of the season. They then finish the season with 3 straight road games. Earlier this week Highlander Seniors, Hiram Moore and Antoine Cabarrus, were named to the 100 top returning high school stand-outs list compiled by www.wvspn.com. With the tough 2002 schedule that this team has they will need these two stand-outs to be at the top of their game all season, as they look to improve on last years 2-8 record.
