FUNERAL FUND RAISER

HNN Staff

A Huntington family is asking you to open your hearts and your wallets today to help them bury their seven-year-old son.

Melvin Kornegay died in Georgia from injuries he sustained in an ATV accident where his father was driving.

Melvin's mother can't afford to fly his body to Huntington, or to pay for his funeral, which they say will cost about $6,000 altogether.

"We still need to raise money to bring him from Atlanta to Huntington," said Jim Smoot, Melvin's great uncle. "From there we need to pay for all the funeral expenses."

If you'd like to help, the Chevron station at Eighth Avenue is collecting donations. Ferrell Mortuary is also collecting donations and coordinating the funeral plans.
