City Council Approve Monies for Study of Four Pole Creek Flood Plain----
In a hastily called, late afternoon meeting of the Huntington City Council, Mayor Jean Dean called on members of Council to pass a resolution authorizing the appropriation of $10,000 for a study of the Four Pole Creek flood plain. The resolution also authorized the Mayor to apply for a grant with the US
Department of Commerce for additional funds for the study.

The $10,000 is spent in part as a joint effort between Huntington, the Cabell County Commission, and the Wayne County Commission. The other commissions are giving $10,000 and $2,000 to the study, respectively. The total cost of the study between federal and local moneys would be $110,000.00 (pending approval of the grant). The city is using part of the moneys it has set aside in this year's budget.

The reason, Dean says, for the emergency meeting of Council was caused by the Region II Planning and Development Council failing to make application for the grant and also because the deadline for applying for the grant is July 5th. The resolution passed on a vote of 8-0-0, with three members, Phil Cline, Jim Ritter and Renee Maas not present.
