FISH TACOS A HUGE HIT IN HUNTINGTON

Fish Tacos, almost as popular as cheeseburgers in the beach towns of Southern California, have made it to the shores of Huntington. Jewel City Seafood Market, of East Huntington, has Mahi Tacos on their menu, and the "unusual" taco has developed a loyal following in the River City.

"I love the fresh taste," said Keith Christopher, of Huntington. "They aren't greasy like the tacos at that fast-food place."

"They're different, but they're leaner than meat or chicken," said Susan Jackson, of Ceredo. "They don't taste fishy."

"My husband is thrilled with the Mahi Tacos at Jewel City," said Dolores Martin, of Hurricane. "He's from San Diego and used to eat them several times a week. Until Jewel City put them on the menu, he had to drive to Cheesecake Factory in Columbus. That's a long commute for lunch."

But they're not for everybody. We asked several people outside of Taco Bell what they thought of Fish Tacos, and the general reaction, was, "Ew, FISH Tacos? No thanks!" Owner Joseph Beter brought the Mahi Tacos to West Virginia after spending decades enjoying Latin food and seafood dishes in Miami. His are a more Carribean version of the popular food. Unlike the popular Fish Tacos in Southern California, Beter grills his Mahi rather than frying it, keeping the lighter taste without adding the fat from frying. And he serves them with a red sauce instead of the white sauce which is popular out west. You'll find Jewel City Seafood Market at 2761 Fifth Avenue in East Huntington, near Big Bear Supermarket. A pair of Mahi Tacos will run you $5.99.
