"I will not allow teenagers to drink beer and smoke pot in my home."
Former Cabell County science teacher Martha Fillinger will have plenty of time to learn that lesson.
Fillinger, 44, of Huntington, was sentenced 24 hours in jail and to five-years probation after she hosted a Halloween party where teenagers drank alcohol and smoked pot. She also must serve 100 hours of community service and is prevented from teaching for five years.
Fillinger entered a guilty plea to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
She was arrested in November, 2001, after a video of a party at her home was viewed by Huntington Police. That video showed teens aged 14 to 17 drinking beer, smoking marijuana and engaging in lewd conduct.
Fillinger has been on suspension without pay since her arrest.
A spokeswoman for the Cabell County School District declined to comment on how the district plans to handle Fillinger's case until the school board's attorney can review the court records.
