BRIDGE WORK WILL CAUSE MORE COMMUTER DELAYS
HNN Staff
Expect more huge traffic delays on the East Huntington Bridge Thursday and Friday.
The bridge will be closed so that more cable vibration tests and deck surveys
can be conducted.
The traffic delays and the heat left local drivers hot under their collars Wednesday.
"Only a bureaucrat would close a bridge during the day," said Joel Boone,
of Huntington. "They should conduct these tests overnight, or on the weekends,
not during the day."
"They should have publicized this in advance," said Andrew McComas,
of Wayne. "I would have waited until next week to run this errand. Now I'm
just another car in the way."
"It highlights the need for more bridges, said Doris Sutter, of Chesapeake,
Ohio. "There aren't enough ways to get across the river."
There is only one available detour: It's The Robert C. Byrd Bridge, which spans
the Ohio River from Huntington to Chesapeake.
There is little relief in sight. Next week, starting Monday, the East Huntington
Bridge will be reduced to one lane mid-day through September 27.
