The Great Huntington Renaissance: Art in the Park
by Duke Landers

“Artists can color the sky red because they know its blue. Those of us who aren’t artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we’re stupid.” – Jules Feifer.

The Tri State Arts Association held its annual “Art in the Park” on Saturday, beneath the great shaded oaks of Ritter Park. Over 36 regional and local artists displayed their work to the viewing public. Despite the sweltering heat, crowds were out in large numbers to take advantage of this fine display of culture and expression. “This is the largest event of its kind in the Tri State area,” said Lillianne Dent Bowersock, president of the non-profit organization and resident artist.
The organization includes 150 artists from Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Members must attend two meetings once they have met the criteria of a juried exhibition. With over 20 previous showings, the Tri State Arts Association has long established a unique Huntington tradition.
Exhibitions can be seen all year round at the Renaissance Gallery (900 8th street). Works are presented on a 6- month basis, featured exclusively through the Tri State Association for the Arts.
