Gary Adkisson, publisher of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph has resigned to be publisher of The State Journal, a Charleston-based weekly business publication.

Lorenelle White, current publisher of The State Journal, says Adkisson will take over in October. White will be director of sales for The State Journal and WOWK-TV. Her husband, William White, sold The State Journal in December to West Virginia Media Holdings, owner of WOWK-TV and two other television stations.

Adkisson was on vacation and unavailable for comment, but Tom Colley, editor of the Bluefield newspaper, confirmed Monday, Sept. 16 that Adkisson no longer was publisher of the paper, owned by Community Newspaper Holding Inc. of Birmingham, Ala. The company also owns The Register-Herald of Beckley.

The State Journal has a circulation of about 11,000, but a readership survey by a Charleston firm shows it reaches about 35,000 people each week, Lorenelle White said.
