| At
about 2:00 a.m. Monday, fire ripped through a three-story building on Washington Blvd. in
Huntington's West End. Video Warehouse, a video rental business, was located on the first floor of the building. The firemen first on the scene fought the fire from the inside to make sure no one was inside, and afterward went on the defensive by fighting it from outside the building. At press time, no one was reported injured in the fire, and a cause could not yet be determined. "They fought it from inside first, offensively," Fire Chief Greg Fuller told HNN. "Then after inspecting it from inside, went on the defensive from outside. The fire climbed straight through the building, and got in the roof. They've done a great job at containing it to that building and not letting it spread." Fuller also said that Washington Blvd., at the entrance to Central City, beside Heiner's Bakery and Captain D's, would have to be closed while they worked on the building today. "We'll have to close off this part of Washington Blvd.," Fuller said. "The inspectors are on their way here now, and they'll be working on it after all of the fires are out inside to determine the cause. By the looks of it, we will probably have to demolish the most dangerous parts of the building later today as well." This is the second major Huntington business fire in as many weeks. Kauffmann's Jewelry on 4th Ave. burned on Feb. 5th. The Video Warehouse fire was found to be accidental, according to HFD Fire Chief Greg Fuller. |
