MU Theatre Department plans
summer camps
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall University Theatre Department is conducting
Summer Performing Arts Camp 2002 and the new Youth Summer Theatre Intensive
in June, spokesperson Belinda Callicoat said today.
Callicoat, program assistant in the theatre department, said Summer Performing
Arts Camp 2002, for ages 6-18, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily
June 10-24 at a cost of $165 per person. Participants will be placed in
age appropriate classes and learn from professional faculty and teachers.
She said the performing arts camp is designed to enrich and enlighten
young theatre enthusiasts, who will be exposed to training with a focus
on developing the "whole" person.
The Youth Summer Theatre Intensive, for ages 12-18, will be from 1 to
4:30 p.m. daily June 10-30 at a cost of $210 per person. Participants
will learn auditioning techniques, voice and diction, movement for the
actor, improvisation techniques, rehearsal techniques and resume preparation.
The theatre intensive is a new program which was designed in response
to many inquiries from parents of students attending last year's camp,
Callicoat said. They asked for a longer, more in-depth training course
in threatre and acting.
Deadline to sign up for the summer camps, both of which will take place
in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center, is June 5. For more information,
