Perry to discuss presidential appointment at Thursday ceremony
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University President Dan Angel and the Elizabeth
Lewis College of Business will host a noon luncheon, followed by a ceremony
at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, to honor Huntington businessman and Marshall
alumnus A. Michael Perry.
Perry recently was appointed by President George W. Bush to the Christopher
Columbus Fellowship Foundation Board of Trustees. Perry will take his
oath of office to serve on the Foundation during the 1:30 p.m. ceremony.
Both the luncheon and ceremony will take place in the Memorial Student
Center's John Marshall Room.
Perry, also a former interim president of Marshall, is a longtime West
Virginia business, community and education leader.
Established in 1992 by the U.S. Congress in conjunction with the 500th
anniversary of the discovery of the Americas, the Columbus Foundation
is an independent federal government agency that nurtures and recognizes
pioneering individuals and programs which reflect the visionary spirit
and pioneering heritage of Christopher Columbus.
Perry is the second West Virginian to serve on the Columbus Foundation's
board of directors. Rosalyn Queen Alonso of Clarksburg was first appointed
in 1993 by President Bill Clinton to serve on the Foundation. In 1995,
President Clinton appointed Mrs. Alonso to serve as chairman of the Board
of Directors, a position she still maintains.
Mrs. Alonso will administer the oath of office to Perry on behalf of President
Bush.
