Jerry McDonald and the Huntington Area Development Council got what they wanted yesterday from the Huntington division of the Corps of Engineers.

The Corps granted the HADCO a permit to begin construction on the park, but another permit must be obtained before major work can be done.  That permit will be granted if a worthwhile proposal is given to make FourPole Creek run between the park and WV 10, without the creek ruining the sides of the road and the park.

The Corps sent the permit to the city, and it was reviewed and signed by Phil Cline, President of the Huntington Municipal Development Authority.  HMDA owns the title to the land.

According to city officials, the parks new name, "KineticPark", refers to motion which is mean to draw technology-based businesses there.

KineticPark will take over almost an acre of wetlands on the site, so the city has promised to build 1.6 acres of wetlands on the property elsewhere.

Construction should begin in about a month, and the total cost of KineticPark will be approximately $16.1 million, according to HADCO officials.
