Thirty-four hearty fellows turned out to participate in the Huntington Ice Bowl 2001. Snow fell throughout the rounds with an estimated 2 inches falling during play. The disc golf charity event raised $1,330 for the Huntington Area Food Bank and the organizers will find out Monday or Tuesday what the final count is on the pounds of food raised. The first round was a singles format and the second saw a seeded scramble doubles. The best score was paired with the worst, the second best with second worst and so forth. The two scores were totaled to determine the winner. 1986 World Disc Golf Open Champion John Sias defended his Ice Bowl title with a combined score of 91 (108 is par). Top Amateur finishers were: Tom Gibbs 93 Charleston, WV Jack Chapman 97 Huntington, WV Chris Knight 98 Huntington, WV Matt Kyle 98 Huntington, WV Jim Roberts 98 Huntington, WV Bob Sakhai 99 Huntington, WV Ken Rollins 99 Ashley, OH Brad Henline 103 South Point, OH Shane Ross 103 Barboursville, OH Andy Harshbager 104 Huntington, WV Don Kleppe 104 Huntington, WV Top Novice finishers were Brian Gregory - 117 and Bob Estep 121 Chet Parnum from Indianapolis, IN traveled the furthest to attend the event. |
