The Huntington Ice Bowl 2001 will be held today, at Rotary Park Disc Golf Course off of Rt. 60.

The Ice Bowl, in its 4th year, is a charity event benefiting the Huntington Area Food Bank.  Entrants will be playing two rounds of disc golf for fun and charity.

Registration for the event starts at 9:30 a.m.  The cost is $10.00 and all the non-perishable food that can be carried.  Ice Bowl t-shirts will be given to the first 50 entrants.

Players will play two rounds of disc golf.  The first round will be singles, and the second round will be a seeded "Best Disc" doubles format where the best score of the first round will be paired with the worst, etc.  Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

In the spirit of good fun, the Ice Bowl has a few short rules.  The first rule is that the event cannot be canceled due to weather.  However, in the event of lightning, it will be delayed.  The second rule is "No wimps, no whiners."  Fines of 25 cents will be levied for each complaint heard to be uttered, and in some cases even if they are not.  All fines go to the food bank.

For added fun, mulligans will be sold for 50 cents prior to teeing off of the first round for first round use only.  Up to 18 may be purchased.  Only one may be used per hole, and player must play the mulligan, even if it is in a worse position.  There won't be refunds for unused mulligans.  All funds will go to the food bank.

The is the 4th year for the Ice Bowl, and it has placed 6th, 5th and 4th, respectively in international competition for the number of food raised.  In the past three years, over $2,500 dollars and 18 tons of food have been raised.

This year's goal was $1,200, but that amount has already been raised, so it has been increased to $1,500.
