Enslow Park Files Writ Against City Of Huntington

By T. Michael Murdock, HNN News Editor

The Enslow Park Neighborhood Association, Inc., has filed a writ for the city to deed over two lots that adjoin Enslow Park and the Business and Technology Park site.

According to Phil Nelson, President of the Enslow Park Association, the land in question fronts on Donald Avenue, and are the only two remaining lots  in Enslow Park that touch the B & T Park.

“The city council passed an ordinance over a year ago to deed us the land,” Nelson said.  “We’re just trying to force the city to transfer the lots to Enslow, Inc.”

Nelson said the land was supposed to go to the group when they became a not-for-profit organization.

The lots, a span of about 28 acres of the Hugh Stillman property, would directly connect the B & T property to the Enslow Park area, specifically, Donald Avenue.

"It's basically a friendly suit," Nelson said.  "We aren't out to embarrass the city or anything like that.  We just feel that since it's been a year, we need a judge or adjudicator to make a decision."

Nelson said the group wanted to make sure there wouldn't be traffic running from the B & T Park through Enslow Park.

"We don't want those lots open to traffic," Nelson said.  "When the mayor promised us the lots, she said it was to protect the quaintness and tranquility of the neighborhood.  We want the city to honor its commitment."

Mark Hayes, the Association's lawyer, filed the writ Friday, and Judge David Pancake has been assigned to oversee the hearing.
