Monday Night Madness Introduces Herd
By Chris Spencer
(HUNTINGTON, OCT. 27) New head Marshall University basketball coach Ron Jirsa introduced his version of Thundering Herd basketball to the public at Monday Night Madness held at the Cam Henderson Center on Monday evening.
For Herd basketball fans it was their chance to see the new look of Henderson Center with the massive new lighted score board, new floors and to see what kind of basketball team Marshall might have this season.
The Marshall team and coaching staff were introduced in style running through clouds of smoke into the light to the delightful applause of fans and cheerleaders with music provided by the Marshall band.
Coach Ron Jirsa was upbeat telling the crowd the team was working on getting to the level of where he wanted them to be. Jirsa stressed he wanted a fast break offense with an aggressive defense.
A dunking contest took place with Eric Smith winning based on the applause of the crowd. An intra-squad scrimmage followed.
Marshall will open their exhibition season with a Coaches vs Cancer game on November 8 at 7 PM at Henderson Center. This will be followed with another exhibition game with the G.T. Express at home on November 15 at 2 PM.
Marshall will open the season at home with UNC-Wilmington on November 21, at 8 PM. A classic rival match up with Morehead State will be played on November 29 at 7 PM also at Henderson Center.
