HHS Girls Soccer Rockets to Regionals
By Chris Spencer
The Huntington High School girls soccer team defeated Spring
Valley 3-0 to win the sectional trophy on Wednesday evening at
Huntington High School.
Huntington High now advances to a region semi final game that
will be played Tuesday, October 28 at Huntington High School starting
time is expected to be 6 PM. If Huntington wins it will be the 100th
school victory.
Huntington High School Soccer Coach Bob Hogsett was confident
his team could win over the Timberwolves. Huntington High with the
victory clinched their 99th win for the school and are 18-2 with a
ranking of third in West Virginia.
Hogsett said, "We are expected to win every time out. We are
nervous because we know every team we play has the potential to knock
us
out."
"This was a pretty good Spring Valley team. We have a bunch
of good girls too and are excited about being here. The kids have
worked hard and have done a whole lot of what we have taught them
tonight."
One surprise for Hogsett this season had been the strength of
his
reserves which has added needed depth to the team when others were
injured.
He said, "I thought we had eleven or twelve really good girls.
What has ended up because of injuries and some other things we have
ended up with about fifteen or sixteen that can help us."
"We have had to call on kids I didn't think we could call on. I
thought we would lose about four or five games this year because of
being on the road and the strength of our schedule."
"We have only lost two and those were just one to nothing. One
of
those teams we out played and the other we played without two of our
key starters."
"These kids have done a really good job."
